The FBI has released their 3rd quarter (2010) bank crime statistics for the period of July 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010. They report that during this period there were 1,325 reported violations - an increase from the 1,212 reported in 2009.
More specifically, there were: 1,310 robberies, 13 burglaries, two larcenies and six extortions of financial institutions. In 90% of the situations, a total of $9.3 million was taken. Of the money stolen, 20% (or $1.4 million) was recovered and returned to the financial institutions. Incidents were reported occuring most on Fridays, and traditionally between the hours of 9 am and 11 am.
